Grants of up to $50,000 to Minnesota nonprofit organizations, individuals, businesses, associations, schools, and cities in eligible locations to preserve natural resources. Funding is intended to support projects that protect the quality and quantity of groundwater, enhance water storage and infiltration, and restore wildlife and plant habitats. Funded projects must serve the Nine Mile Creek Watershed District.
Stewardship grants help homeowners, associations, businesses, schools, and other organizations install projects that prevent stormwater pollution to local lakes and Nine Mile Creek. Typical projects funded through the stewardship grant program include raingardens, shoreline buffers, pervious pavers, and chloride reduction efforts (anti-icing equipment purchases, equipment retrofitting, etc.).
Stewardship grant funds are available for implementing projects that support one or more of the following goals:
Eligible expenses include project materials, labor, engineering, and consulting fees.

The minimum grant award is $500.
Maximum grant awards:
- Residential projects: $5,000
- Townhome, condominium, or lake associations: $20,000
- Commercial, government, or nonprofit projects: $50,000
Grants are reimbursed for up to 75% of a project’s cost.
- Grantees have up to one year to complete the stewardship grant project from when the grant agreement is signed.
- Grant agreements are typically signed between mid-May to mid-June
