Grants to USA and territories entities for scientific research to develop and improve biofuels and other biological materials. Pre-applications are required prior to the submission of full applications. Applicants are advised that required registrations may take several weeks to complete.
The DOE SC program in Biological and Environmental Research (BER) hereby announces its interest in receiving applications for research within the Biological Systems Science Division‘s (BSSD) Genomic Science Program (GSP) mission-space. This FOA solicits applications in the following research areas:
Applications must include strategies to address biocontainment, minimizing risks of potential release of engineered organisms into the environment or other unintended outcomes.

Approximately six to 12 awards are expected.
Award Ceiling: $5,000,000 per year
Award Floor: $1,000,000 per year
DOE anticipates making awards with a project period of five years.
Continuation funding (funding for the second and subsequent budget periods) is contingent on: (1) availability of funds appropriated by Congress and future year budget authority; (2) progress towards meeting the objectives of the approved application; (3) submission of required reports; and (4) compliance with the terms and conditions of the award.
