Grants of $500 to Minnesota individual artists to recover from career-threatening losses, including those resulting from the Coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis. Funding is intended to assist artists and creative workers in all disciplines who are facing an emergency. Eligible applicants identify as one of the priority populations, including minority groups, individuals with disabilities, individuals that identify as LGBTQIA+, and artists who are located in Greater Minnesota (outside of the seven-county Twin Cities area).

The Fund supplies monies to artists living in Minnesota with catastrophic, career-threatening emergencies such as:

  • Income loss from cancellations, closures, and postponements in the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Medical emergency
  • Theft
  • Natural disaster

This emergency funding is typically used for basic necessities such a housing, utilities, childcare, groceries, and medical costs including mental healthcare.

The Foundation expects to fund approximately 120 applicants.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must meet these eligibility requirements:
- Must be an artist, culture bearer, or creative worker based in Minnesota.
- Have a catastrophic, career-threatening emergency
- Must not have received Emergency Relief Funding from Springboard for the Arts between December 2020 and March 2021.
- Are not a current recipient of Springboard for the Arts' Creative Economy or Rural Regenerator Fellowship.
- Must be a member of a priority population:
1) Artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and/or Native
2) Artists from Greater MN (live outside the 7-county, Twin Cities metro area)
3) LGBTQIA+ artists
4) Artists with a disability or of The Deaf Community. This includes those who are immunocompromised.

If you received funding in the Coronavirus Emergency Relief Fund that ran from December 2020 to March 2021, you are not eligible for funding in this application period. If you received funding before then, but not in the December 2020 - March 2021 period, you are eligible.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications will be accepted until Friday, January 28, 2022, at 5 pm.

With a limited pool of funds, the Foundation has opted for a lottery once all eligible applications are in.

Applicants will be notified of selection via email by Monday, February 21, 2022.
