Grants of up to $5,000 to Arrowhead Region, Minnesota nonprofit organizations, accredited schools, tribal governments, and units of government for arts-related activities. Funding may be used to exhibit, create, publish, or perform artistic works or for arts events that contract the services of other organizations or individuals.

Projects may take place in Aitkin, Cook, Carlton, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, or St. Louis Counties.

The Art Project program provides funding to support relevant, meaningful arts activities with value to the community the organization serves.

Term of Contract:

For the September deadline, the earliest possible starting date of the project is Sunday, December 1, 2019.

For the March deadline, the earliest possible starting date of the project is Monday, June 1, 2020.

For all deadlines, the project must be completed and grant funds spent by June 30, 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

All Duluth organizations are eligible regardless of budget size. Organizations outside of Duluth with minimum prior-year arts operating expenses of $40,000 are eligible to apply into this program.

Eligible organizations:
- State-registered and federally recognized non-profit, tax-exempt organizations
- Accredited schools
- Tribal governments
- Units of government

To be eligible to apply for any ARAC grant an artist must be 18 years old, a citizen or have permanent resident status, and be a resident of the eligible counties for at least six months, and remain a Minnesota resident for the duration of the project.

Individuals enrolled in arts-related degree programs are ineligible to apply.

If the applicant group has not yet received nonprofit, tax-exempt status, it may apply by using another nonprofit organization, an accredited school, tribal government, or other units of government as a fiscal sponsor.

Ineligible for funding:
- The project attempts to influence any state or federal legislation
- The activity involves out-of-state travel.
- The project requires excessive entry or exhibition fees, includes tuition, fees or work toward a degree
- The project primarily involves developing school curriculum plans or teaching materials
- The project promotes religious socialization
- The project was once supported by state general fund appropriations
- The project is designed for a private audience and is not open to the general public
- The project is for capital improvement or construction
- The funds are requested to purchase more than $600 worth of equipment or to purchase real property
- The funds are requested for general operating support
- The funds are requested for a project that serves as a benefit or fundraiser

- For projects beginning December 1, 2019: Friday, September 27, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.
- For projects beginning June 1, 2020: Friday, April 3, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.

Applications open six weeks prior to the deadline.

Board Approval Meetings will take place on Thursday, November 21, 2019 for the September deadline and on Thursday, May 21, 2020 for the March deadline.
