Opportunity for USA musical ensembles to participate in a 20-day international tour. Bands will receive monetary compensation, travel and production expenses, and a tour manager. Selected ensembles will have the opportunity to present their work to international audiences through concerts, demonstrations, lectures, workshops, jam sessions, and performances with local musicians.

The American Music Abroad program is designed to communicate America’s rich musical contributions to the global music scene as it fosters cross-cultural communication and people-to-people connection to global audiences.

In cooperation with the U.S. Department of State, American Voices arranges a series of virtual exchange programs that include live-streamed concerts, collaborative online performances with local traditional musicians, online lecture demonstrations, online workshops, and virtual jam sessions.  The programs focus on younger and underserved audiences, with little or no access to American music, in over 140 countries around the world.

The 2022-2023 Tour Season returns to live touring and will select ten bands composed of three to five members that demonstrate outstanding musical talent, aptitude in performance and educational programming, and adaptable skills for diverse international audiences. The ten selected bands will participate in an international tour to one to two countries.

AMA welcomes all musical genres, including a-cappella, country, hip hop, rap, rock, indie, classical, folk, Latin, rhythm & blues, soul, jazz, Broadway, gospel, and Native American music. Selected bands will be asked to partner with U.S. Embassies worldwide, creating programming that will connect people across cultural divides, further ensuring a sustainable impact for the rich legacy of musical diplomacy in the U.S. Department of State.
