Grants of $250 and in-kind services to Minnesota residents in eligible regions to design and plan ecological gardening and landscaping projects. Grantees participate in courses and workshops with a focus on water quality and will receive in-kind assistance and a grant to install a garden project. Eligible applicants are residents of Dakota County.

The Landscaping for Clean Water Design Course helps residents create and install beautiful landscaping projects that are unique to their yard. This course is a great opportunity to learn about garden planning from the experts, whether residents are interested in finding out about site design, plant selection, raingarden installation, or adding native plants to the landscape. As an added bonus, enrollment in the course makes residents eligible to apply for a cost-share grant for their project at the conclusion of the design phase.

Design course participants will be provided with instructional videos that walk participants through the process from design to install, a scaled map of the particpant's property to use when determining location, size, and shape, tools to help in designing the project (including planting plans and a native plant and mulch suppliers list), and the opportunity for one-on-one Zoom appointments with a SWCD staff person for assistance.

At the end of the Design Course participants will have a complete garden project planned and ready to install. Participants then have the opportunity to apply for a $250 cost share grant, funded by Dakota County watershed organizations. The grant (paid at completion of project) includes in-person site visits at the property and technical assistance from program staff available throughout the installation process.
